Chain End Fastening Devices
The chain end holder is an important part of the mooring system.
According to the rules of classification societies, chain end holders must be capable of withstanding a load of at least 80% of the chain cable strength.
If a chain end holder is not used, the capstan brake must handle the same load. Therefore, the chain end holder is a critical component for protecting the capstan from overloads and is highly recommended by DATA.
For securing the anchor inside the anchor pocket, a locking mechanism known as a “devil's claw” is used.
