Header Tank
The purpose of the header tank is to compensate for the expansion and contraction of the hydraulic oil in the steering system caused by temperature variations. In addition, when an automatic filling system is not available, it ensures that the helm pump reservoirs remain filled at all times.
The header tank can be used in both manual and automatic filling systems. In automatic systems, the vent cap must be tightly closed and a connection to the HPU reservoir should be provided.
The tank should be installed above the highest-positioned helm pump on the vessel. It is manufactured from stainless steel, has a 2-liter capacity, and is equipped with level indicators (sight glasses) as standard.
